Facilities and Environment

Around 700 students are educated at the school. Many of our students continue their education to the age of 18 years at one of our partner FE schools and colleges and go on to complete university degree courses.

The school site is spacious and is located within the South Ribble borough of Lancashire. It is located on the south side of the River Ribble between Preston to its north and the market town of Leyland – famous for its vehicle and truck manufacturing heritage - 2 miles south. We are lucky enough to be able to enjoy many tree varieties within our own grounds and our large pond offers habitat to many species of wildlife.

In 2016 six fabulous new science laboratories were opened and in 2019 the academy celebrated a new english block with library and conference facilities. In recent years there has been refurbishment to a great number of classrooms, student toilet facilities and the whole school dining room. LHA has an undisputed track record of excellence in the field of the arts and the facilities here enable all our students access to many different genre of art, including photography and pottery as well as outstanding teaching.

The academy has a large sports hall, gymnasium, and 4 grass football pitches. Many of our students are proud to represent the school and some of our students compete at county and even national standard in their chosen fields. We are currently working towards the refurbishment and upgrade of our external pitch facilities which will enable us to take part in sports all year round and strengthen our links with our community with whom we would like to share the improved facilities outside of school hours, as we do with other aspects of our school estate.

LHA has a fabulous stage and seating facility which provides the perfect setting for music and drama performances.

All of our classrooms and buildings, which vary in age, are maintained to a very high standard because we believe that our students and staff deserve the best environment we can offer.
