Class Groups

At the beginning of your time at Lostock Hall Academy, you’ll be placed in tutor groups for most of your subjects. This helps everyone settle in and learn together while teachers get to know your strengths and how best to support you.

Timetable

Unlike in primary school, you won’t stay in the same classroom all day. At the Academy, you’ll follow a weekly timetable, and each lesson lasts one hour. We don’t use bells to signal the end of lessons—your teacher will let you know when it’s time to move on. This helps you develop time management skills, which are a great asset for your future!

You’ll move around the school to different classrooms for each subject, and you’ll be taught by a range of specialist teachers. Don’t worry if you’re unsure where to go at first—everyone needs a bit of time to find their way around! There will always be staff on the corridors and in the outdoor space during lesson changeovers to help guide you.

You’ll carry your laptop, books, and equipment in your school bag, so it’s important to stay organised. Take a few minutes each evening to pack your bag with everything you’ll need for the next day. For example, you only need to bring your PE kit on the days you have PE.

Check out the “Be Prepared Every Day” section and use the example timetable to practise packing your bag—it’s a great habit to get into!

Subjects

In Year 7, some of your subjects will be taught on a carousel. This means you’ll study a different subject every six weeks, giving you the chance to try out lots of exciting new areas of learning.

The carousel helps you discover what you enjoy and where your strengths lie. Later on in school, you’ll get the opportunity to choose your favourite subjects to study in more depth at GCSE level.
