Do you have something you're unsure about?
This page covers the most common questions students and parents ask—from homework and lunch to transport, wellbeing, and more.
Can’t find what you need? Just get in touch—we’re happy to help.
Homework
How much homework will I get?
You’ll receive homework via Synergy to support your learning. Expect up to one piece per subject each week, spaced out to help you manage your time.
Settling In
What if I’m coming on my own?
Many students join us without knowing anyone from their primary school—this is completely normal! We often place students in similar situations together in form groups to help you make new friends quickly.
What if I get lost?
Don’t worry—everyone gets lost at first, even staff! Just ask a teacher, older student, or visit the Student Services desk at reception. You won’t get into trouble for being late if you’re lost—just let your teacher know.
Food & Lunch
What food is available?
Our canteen offers a wide range of hot and cold meals at lunch, and breakfast snacks like toast, bagels, and crumpets at break. You’re also welcome to bring a packed lunch.
Where will I eat my food?
Year 7 students have their own area in the canteen to enjoy their meals. Please remember that all food should be eaten in the canteen this helps keep our school clean and tidy.
What if I don’t have money on my lunch account?
Make sure your lunch account is topped up in advance—accounts can’t go into debt. Keep an eye on your balance, and if it’s running low, remind your parent or carer to add funds. If you ever find yourself without money, go to Student Reception—they’ll help you sort it out.
Transport
What if I miss the bus?
In the morning: Contact your parent/carer.
After school: Return to student reception—they’ll help you contact home.
What if I forget to tell my parent/carer I’m staying after school?
It’s your responsibility to let home know, but if you forget, speak to your teacher or student reception. They’ll let you use the phone to get permission.
Support & Wellbeing
Who do I speak to if I have a problem?
Your form tutor is your first point of contact. They’re there to help and can guide you to the right support.
What if I’m struggling with schoolwork?
It’s okay to find things difficult sometimes. Talk to your subject teacher—they’ll help you. You can also attend Homework Club after school.
What if I feel unwell or get injured at school?
If you feel unwell or hurt yourself, let your teacher know. If needed, they’ll send you to BFL, where staff will help you feel better, contact a first aider, or call home if necessary.
Appointments & Absence
What if my child has an appointment during the school day?
Your parent/carer should inform the Academy via School Synergy with the details. Students must sign out at student reception.
How do I report an absence?
Notify the Academy via School Synergy or call 01772 336293 on the first day of illness, selecting absence option. Keep us updated daily unless a return date is already given.
We use a messaging service to follow up on unexplained absences.
Please DO NOT book holidays during term time—unauthorised absences may result in a penalty.
Medical Needs
My child takes regular medication—what should I do?
Let us know about any medical needs, even if they’ve been shared by primary school. Students can store medication (e.g., EpiPens, insulin) in the pastoral office and self-administer when needed.
Contact Information
What if our contact details change?
It’s vital we have up-to-date information. Please inform the academy as soon as possible if your address, phone number, or email changes.
Parent/carer should contact the Academy via School Synergy with the details.
