At Lostock Hall Academy, we are committed to developing confident, respectful and responsible young people who are well prepared for life beyond school. Through the explicit teaching of our Core Values, positive role modelling, and the celebration of student achievements, we aim to nurture well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to their school, local community and wider society.
Our Core Values underpin every aspect of Academy life. They shape our culture, support students' personal growth and help them develop the knowledge, skills and character needed to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Through daily interactions, dedicated tutor time activities and wider enrichment opportunities, students are encouraged to reflect on their values, make positive choices and take pride in their achievements.
The Character Advancement Programme (CAP) provides students with opportunities to demonstrate and be recognised for living our Core Values in their everyday actions.
Our Core Values
Students at Lostock Hall Academy take pride in promoting our six Core Values:

Together, these values form the foundation of our Academy community and guide the behaviours and attitudes we expect from all students.
Character Advancement Programme (CAP)
The Character Advancement Programme recognises and celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our Core Values in their daily life.
Students can earn recognition for a wide range of achievements, earning their, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum CAP badges.
The programme encourages students to take pride in their achievements and to actively contribute to Academy life and the House to which they belong.
Ready to Thrive
Our tutor programme, 'Ready to Thrive', provides students with dedicated opportunities to explore and reflect upon our Core Values, British Values and current affairs and wellbeing.
These sessions help students understand how the Core Values apply to everyday life and support them in becoming thoughtful, reflective and responsible individuals.
Developing Independent and Self-Regulated Learners
At the Academy, we aim to develop confident, independent learners who take responsibility for their own progress and aspire to achieve their full potential. We explicitly teach students how to plan, monitor and evaluate their learning, enabling them to become resilient, reflective and successful in education, employment and beyond.
Metacognition and self-regulation are embedded throughout our teaching and curriculum. Teachers explicitly develop students' understanding of:
The task and its purpose.
The strategies needed for success.
Their own strengths and areas for development.
Students are encouraged to plan, monitor and evaluate their learning, helping them to build independence, accountability and confidence. Through the consistent use of metacognitive strategies, learning profiles and feedback, students become increasingly effective learners who are equipped to meet challenges and pursue their aspirations.

Personal Development Curriculum
Personal Development is taught explicitly within the Academy's curriculum through weekly lessons that include:
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
- Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
- Citizenship
- British Values
- Careers education and future aspirations
- Social, moral, spiritual and cultural development.
Students explore a range of age-appropriate topics that help them understand and regulate themselves, build healthy relationships, stay safe and become informed citizens.
British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance, are woven throughout our curriculum and linked closely to our Core Values. You can view our Personal Development timetable curriculum here.
Peer Mentors
The Academy's Peer Mentor programme plays an important role in promoting student wellbeing, inclusion and personal development. Each Academy House has two Peer Mentor Leaders, who work alongside a team of Year Group Peer Mentors to support students across the school community.
The programme is designed around a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities students may encounter at different stages of their journey through Lostock Hall Academy. It provides students with a meaningful voice in shaping their environment, strengthening school culture and promoting positive wellbeing.
Peer Mentors support their peers by encouraging inclusion, building positive relationships and helping students feel listened to, valued and connected. Through their leadership, Peer Mentor Leaders act as advocates for the student body, working with staff to identify ways to enhance students' sense of safety, belonging and engagement within the Academy.
By taking on these responsibilities, Peer Mentors develop valuable leadership, communication and empathy skills, while making a positive contribution to a supportive and inclusive school community where every student can thrive.
Targeted Support and Intervention
We are committed to ensuring that every student can succeed both academically and personally. Where students require additional support with behaviour, emotional wellbeing or social development, a range of personalised interventions is available.
These may include:
- Behaviour mentoring and report programmes
- Counselling and wellbeing support
- Restorative conversations and interventions
- Parent and student support meetings
- Targeted social and emotional learning programmes
- Targeted support through partnering with external agencies
- Specialist provision through the Aspire Hub and Reflection Room.
By working closely with students and families, we ensure that all learners receive the support they need to thrive.
Through our Personal Development curriculum and wider offer, students develop the character, confidence and resilience needed to succeed both in school and beyond. They leave Lostock Hall Academy as respectful, responsible and aspirational young people who are equipped to make positive contributions to their communities and future workplaces.
