Intent
Our maths curriculum intends to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to prepare them for employment or higher education. We believe that all students deserve a maths curriculum that is rich in both knowledge and skills and inspires students.
By using a mastery approach the curriculum allows students to become fluent in mathematics through practice using a variety of different tasks but also becoming increasingly difficult throughout units of work. This allows students to develop not only conceptual understanding and the ability to recall skills and apply their knowledge.
We aim to provide students with the skills to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of both routine and non-routine problems. Using the metacognition cycle students will become fluency at breaking down problems into a series of smaller steps in order to find a solution. Students will be able to communicate mathematically and justify answers using mathematical vocabulary.
Our maths curriculum allows students to develop resilience and independence and gives them the knowledge and skills relevant to the real world.
Implementation
Impact
Our maths curriculum provides a solid foundation for further studies. We aim for all students to be fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics with a conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. They should have the skills to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of situations. Students will be able to reason mathematically, resulting in an argument or proof using mathematical language.
We want our students to persevere and embrace challenge and be able to go out into the world of work with a nationally recognised qualification which will allow them to be successful in their future career pathway.
