Intent
At Lostock Hall Academy, we believe that every student deserves access to a high-quality Computer Science education that develops curiosity, creativity, problem solving skills and digital literacy. In an increasingly digital world, we aim to equip all students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to participate safely, responsibly and successfully in modern society.
Our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive and accessible for all learners, regardless of their background, prior attainment or life experience. We are committed to creating a learning environment where all students are treated equally and with respect, allowing our young people to have a feeling of belonging within the classroom. We maintain high expectations for all, and these are made clear through consistent routines, teaching approaches and carefully sequenced lessons allowing all students to feel success.
Implementation
Our Computer Science curriculum is delivered through carefully sequenced lessons that build knowledge, skills and confidence over time, allowing students to revisit and deepen their understanding of core concepts. Students develop computational thinking, programming expertise, digital creativity and an awareness of online safety through a broad and balanced range of learning experiences. Discriminatory or biased language is challenged appropriately allowing all students to feel like they belong within the classroom. We provide appropriate support and challenge through adaptive teaching, explicit live modelling of foundational skills, scaffolding and regular opportunities for whole class formative assessment on a lesson-by-lesson basis, allowing all students to access the learning and demonstrate success.
We are committed to creating a fully inclusive learning environment where all students are treated with respect, feel safe to contribute and are encouraged to make and learn from mistakes. Clear expectations, positive relationships and consistent routines support this.
Impact
The Computer Science curriculum provides students with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in a digital world.
