Year 7

Life Studies is an essential part of the school curriculum and is pivotal for the development of young people in modern day society. In Year 7, The Life Studies programme is taught over four enrichment days covering many topics including:

  • Year 7 Listening
  • Transition
  • PLTS Behaviour
  • Mental Health (Happiness)
  • Young Addaction (Amy Winehouse Foundation)
  • Road Safety
  • Muslim Culture
  • Myths
  • Balanced
  • Diet
  • Bullying
  • Self-Harm/Self Esteem
  • Intro to Drugs
  • First Aid 2 (Emergency)
  • Restorative Justice
  • Alcohol
  • Age of Consent
  • Puberty

These sessions throughout the year are supported by weekly ‘Food For Thought’ reflection in tutor time. Students get the opportunity to discuss various current news items, as well as thinking ‘outside the box’.

Here is an example of the type of things discussed:

  1. Always do your best. What you plant now, you will harvest later. - Og Mandino
  2. You can invite three celebrities for tea. Who would you choose and why?

In the final half-term, students have the opportunity to take part in ‘Enterprise’. This involves eight hourly sessions giving students the chance to plan and organise an entrepreneurial event, culminating in the Enterprise Fayre held in July. All monies raised go to charity.
