Support from the English Department for KS3 Students

  • The KS3 pages on STAR (Moodle) offer a variety of resources to help your child.
  • Click on the BASIC SKILLS section of STAR to find plenty of activities to help with writing and spelling.
  • Click on the ENGLISH PRACTICE section of STAR to find links to websites.
  • One-to-one support can be gained by attending KS3 Homework Club on Thursdays after school, in E3 at 3pm.
  • Where the need has been identified for specialist spelling support, students attend IDL (Indirect Dyslexia Learning Programme).
  • Students identified as needing support with reading comprehension skills engage with our ‘Progress Units’ scheme.
  • Reading confidence is nurtured in Year 7 students through a Reading Mentor Scheme, in which Year 9 students are buddied with Year 7's, to encourage fluent, confident reading.

Support at Home at KS3

  • Throughout Key Stage 3 students consolidate learning and further develop independent reading skills by taking part in the Reading Quest (homework). By looking at the half termly focus on your child’s English STAR page you can support them in their book choices and written responses.
  • Students at Key Stage 3 will also receive weekly spellings for learning and testing the following week. These spellings will be differentiated to your child’s needs and will be placed on Show My Homework each week.
